PRICE REDUCTION!! DON'T PASS THIS UP!! 1965 GTO Hardtop PHS Documented! This car is gorgeous. Don't let this one get away. Ready for the next car show, to cruise down the boulevard, or take it to the race track!
This car was born Mayfair Maize with parchment/black interior, column shift, 389 c.i. 4-barrel, standard brakes, TH300 two-speed automatic transmission. The previous owner repainted and installed new parchment upholstery (2003). Following are things the previous owner did, and then the improvements we made. We have owned this car for 13 years.
The car is basically stock. When we enter car shows, the car is in Stock Class or Muscle Car Class. When we bought the GTO the paint and body work was done, new floor pans were already installed; there is no rust on this GTO. New body mounts and rubber, new gas tank and lines, new fuel pump, new sending unit, brake lines, new upper and lower ball joints, new tie rod ends, new shocks front and rear, and front springs were installed by the previous owner, detailed beautifully underneath. Previous owner rebuilt engine and transmission in September 2004 at 52,660 miles - Turbo 400 transmission with shift kit, mild off-road cam and Pertronix solid state ignition system were installed at the same time (receipt from previous owner from Bayshore Engine Rebuilders in San Francisco). Don't have paint code, the closest that we can come is a Honda Cardinal Red Metallic1988 - as determined by AC Delco Superstore's paint scanner. There are a handful of small nicks in the paint, in inconspicuous places. The rear window has a few scratches, but we have a replacement rear window. Trunk rubber, hood rubber, window rubbers and door rubbers all replaced by previous owner and still in great condition. As much as I can see, I believe that this car had a frame-off restoration at some point - everything underneath is very clean. Seat upholstery (parchment) is in wonderful condition - no rips, tears, gouges, scratches; the front seats are overstuffed for a little softer ride. Headliner is also in wonderful condition - clean and blemish-free. Black carpet is still brand-new looking - clean and not worn.
Following is a list of things that we have improved on the GTO since we bought it in June 2005. We have virtually all the receipts for what we have done. Unless otherwise indicated, new parts and other work on GTO happened from 2006 through 2009):
Front bumper rechromed. New ABS injected grilles (not metal) look original, new GTO emblem on grille. New reproduction headlight bezels - very nice!. New parking light/turn signals. Installed electric cooling fan thermostatically controlled to keep engine cooler, installed in front of the radiator. Installed transcooler. Rechromed rear bumper. Cleaned and repainted tail panel; chrome ribs in excellent condition which is rare for an original tail panel (all 6 studs in great condition, not broken, which is also rare for an original). Original jack in bag matches mats, completely restored to original color. New spare tire and Rally I wheel. December 2006 - new reproduction Hurst 14x6 wheels, trim rings, lug nuts, and chrome center caps with Hurst decals ($2,000). December 2006 - new Diamond Back Classics redline tires, 215/70R14 Yokohamas ($674). Chrome exhaust splitters. INTERIOR: Flaming River tilt steering with 4-way flashers, for console shift. Installed automatic console (1965 GTO) with Turbo200/4R cable shift. Console and shifter in excellent condition. Trim on console is excellent. Chrome on shifter and shifter knob are excellent. Lens and chrome trim on back of console is new. Light inside console works, as does the light on the back of the console. Console light indicator works, as well as the vacuum gauge light.
