1965 PONTIAC GTO CONVERTIBLE
KEY FACTS
A superb example of an American icon, with a vibrant bright red colour scheme.
Under the bonnet is the numbers-matching 389ci (6.4-litre) Pontiac V8, producing around 335bhp, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission.
It has been restored to a high standard, and has only running-in mileage since the rebuild; it is in great shape for the next owner.
EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS
For the 1965 model, Pontiac introduced vertically stacked quad-headlights, a simulated bonnet scoop, a black ‘egg crate’ grille, heavy-duty shocks and a stronger front anti-roll bar.
This example is fitted with optional power steering and the desirable ‘rally’ instrument cluster, which has been refurbished, and is complemented by a second set of aftermarket dials underneath the dashboard.
It also features upgraded power front disc brakes, Cragar SS wheels, four-tube headers and a three-inch stainless steel exhaust.
The cabin is equipped with a new Hurst Competition Plus shifter, with a 3.08 road gear for comfortable cruising, and a replacement AM/FM stereo with a digital display.
The original shop manual is included, along with a raft of maintenance invoices from the restoration process.
This GTO car is a numbers-matching, multiple show-winning car, documented by the Pontiac Historical Society.
CONDITION
No known bodywork damage, and its new white soft-top roof is in superb order.
The resprayed red paintwork is in excellent condition, though two small scratches can be seen on the underside of the right-rear quarter.
The car has received new chrome throughout.
Inside, its red upholstery is in great shape, with no noticeable wear or discolouration. The red-painted dashboard features a few small chips and scratches.
No electrical faults have been detected, and its wiring harness was replaced during the restoration.
SERVICE HISTORY
This GTO has been restored to a very high standard, with the vendor noting that all of the rebuilt mechanical components are true to their original specifications.
It now features new brakes, shock absorbers, springs, wing mirrors, under-carpet insulation, GTO mats, a replacement fuel tank and a new rear differential.
Its last scheduled maintenance was undertaken in October 2019 at 84,048 miles, where technicians at Milltown Foreign and Domestic Auto Repairs in New Jersey changed the engine oil and filter, before resetting the carburettors.
SUMMARY
This Pontiac GTO Convertible is a fully restored example of a muscle car icon, with a number of tasteful upgrades and which has only running-in mileage following its restoration. Now in excellent condition, it is ready to drive and enjoy straight away, and would make a striking addition to any collection of classics
