Description:

This 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible was first sold by Town and Country Volkswagen Inc. of Caldwell, Idaho, and is reportedly one of 900 triple-black Epilogue Edition cars built during the final year of German Beetle production. Now showing 841 miles, the car is powered by a fuel-injected air-cooled 1.6L flat-four that is paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional equipment includes a black convertible soft top and boot, 15 Lemmerz steel wheels, rack and pinion steering, woodgrain dashboard appliqué, a Quarz-Zeit clock, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM/Cassette stereo. This 1303 Super Beetle was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023 and is offered in Maryland with a window sticker, manufacturers literature, and a clean Idaho title. The Super Beetle was offered solely as a convertible during its final year of sale to the North American market in 1979. This example was finished from the factory in black (L041) and features a black convertible soft top and boot as well as a Karmann body tag affixed to the right front quarter panel and chrome-finished impact bumpers with rub strips. Steel 15 Lemmerz sport wheels are mounted with 165-series Continental T5 Radial thin whitewall tires, which are believed to be the factory units. The car rides on a MacPherson strut front suspension and features rack-and-pinion steering. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The front bucket seats and the rear bench are trimmed in black basketweave-pattern leatherette and are complemented by a woodgrain dashboard appliqué. Salt-and-pepper carpets are protected by black rubber floor mats, and additional interior elements include a lockable glove compartment, quarter vent windows, a two-speed fresh air blower fan, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM/Cassette stereo linked to RCA speakers in the front door panels. A four-spoke steering wheel wears a Wolfsburg-crest center and fronts an 85-mph VDO speedometer with an inset fuel level gauge as well as a Quarz-Zeit clock. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 841 miles, approximately 20 of which have been added by the selling dealer. The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four was factory equipped with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated at 48 horsepower and 73 lb-ft of torque.
